EMDR Therapy
In-Person and Online in Virginia
Healing doesn’t have to mean just “getting over it”.
While traditional talk therapy is incredibly valuable, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) offers a unique path to recovery from trauma that often isn't possible through conversation alone. This evidence-based modality allows your brain to process traumatic memories until the intense emotional charge is gone. Instead of the past feeling like a present-day threat, it simply becomes a regular memory—something that happened, but no longer controls your emotional state.
How it works
When you experience an adverse or traumatic event, your brain can sometimes get "stuck" in a loop. Because the memory wasn't processed fully at the time, your mind replays it, often keeping you in a state of anxiety, overwhelm, or frustration. It’s as if the memory is frozen in its original, distressing form.
With the guidance of a certified EMDR therapist, specific techniques are used to unlock that loop. This allows your mind to finally process these memories in a safe, non-triggering way. Once the processing is complete, you still remember what happened, but you are no longer burdened by the strong, painful emotional response that used to come with it.

Feeling "Stuck"
What to Expect
It is common to feel uncertain about starting a new type of therapy. Here is what you can expect in our sessions:
You don’t have to relive the trauma: EMDR is designed to be a safe process that does not require you to dwell on every painful detail.
You are always in control: This is not brainwashing or hypnosis; you are fully awake and aware throughout the entire process.
Minimal storytelling: Unlike talk therapy, you do not need to tell me the full story of the traumatic event for the treatment to be effective.
A supportive environment: Whether in person or via telehealth, I prioritize your comfort, using tools like fidget toys or the presence of your pets to help you stay grounded.
Signs EMDR Might Be Right For You
You find yourself replaying old memories or "loops" that you just can't seem to move past.
You feel trauma in your body even when there is no immediate danger.
Certain people, places, or sounds cause a sudden wave of anxiety, anger, or shame.
"Overreacting" to small things, response feels completely justified and uncontrollable.
You struggle with beliefs that you aren't "good enough" or that things are your fault.
You understand why you feel the way you do, but you don’t know how to get relief.
Ready to move forward with a greater sense of peace?
Don’t keep replaying the same painful loops.
Real change happens when we stop managing the symptoms and start processing the root cause. If you’re ready to unlock the past and reclaim your present, I am here to guide you through the EMDR process with safety and compassion.
